Art Laboe is a living legend. Despite having a syndicated show that’s broadcast all over the Southwestern United States, I have always linked his voice to Los Angeles.

I didn’t appreciate Art until I started doing my own radio show. During my 7 year stint as a radio DJ in Los Angeles, Art became one of my heroes. He’s probably best known for playing classic love songs along with his listeners’s dedications. And in those dedications, it’s not uncommon for people to reveal intimate details about their families, relationships and love lives. I attribute it to his sincerity, that after all of these years, he still manages to connect with his audience.

After finishing the COMBAT! album, I moved back to Los Angeles with just my laptop to work on music. It was a lonely period - I was living by myself and would spend a lot of nights driving around aimlessly while listening to Art’s radio show (back when it was on 7 days a week). I started connecting deeply with some of the songs. It was as if Art had a special ability to play the perfect song to accompany whatever I was feeling at the time. I was inspired to rework some of those songs and that’s what ended up becoming this mix.

It is a dream of mine to hear Art introduce one of my songs next to a listener’s dedications. If he ever hears this mix, I hope that he takes it as a sign of my praise. This is my dedication to you, Art.
